Toughened or tempered glass is a type of safety glass with increased strength both physically and thermally. Toughened glass is created by heating up a finished panel at high temperatures for an extended period of time. Thermally toughened glass is 5 times stronger than float glass of the same thickness while maintaining the accuracy and clarity of float glass. Rather than breaking into large shards when broken, toughened glass breaks into small, solid round chunks, making it much safer.
